Okay, so a super wacky and crazy friend gave me a very "special" order... her husband is crazy about slasher movies, horror movies, zombie movies, etc.... Apparently, the more grotesque and gory the better... Since she is a baker herself, she didn't really need me to make the cake, but she did ask me to make an "extra special" cake topper.... I think her words were "the more disgusting and grotesque it can be, the better it will be".... What is it? A severed head cake topper....
I'm not sure if it came out more "severed head" or "zombie head", but I don't think you can dispute the level of grotesque.... Apparently, it was a huge hit...
So how do you get from this..... To this?
Like This:
Sugar Skull Mold.... use rice krispie treats instead... |
The Front of the mold |
The assembled skull outside of the mold... |
Add Frosting (smooth with gloved hands after the icing has had a chance to chill and harden) |
Cover with fondant.... starting to look a little creepy |
Airbrush green... I think if I stopped at this point I have a near perfect alien head... what do you think? |
Nose and Mouth with Fondant |
Add some teeth... |
Eyeballs and some "musculosketal" detail... |
Some brows, rotting skin and more muscle... |
At this point, I started adding red fondant I had tinted myself... I got it really wet which allowed me to manipulate it and create a "blood smear" (gag) |
I continued to add "bloody tissue" and "rotting skin" until I really didn't think it could get any more disgusting... I put some chocolate fondant through a clay piper to create some hair.... I used some brown luster dust to add a dirty/rotten edge to the teeth. |
View from the top..... |
And here he is in all his grotesque glory....
Happy Baking and Decorating???? ha ha
